Stijn Aelbers
Project Coordinator
Stijn is a journalist turned humanitarian, focusing on ‘information as aid’ for people affected by crisis. After ten years as a reporter and managing editor for the Belgian Public Radio (VRT), he worked for 2+ years with UNFPA in Uganda with local radio stations on reproductive health and gender.
He joined the humanitarian team at Internews in 2013 and has implemented projects, developed methodologies and advised local, national and international humanitarian agencies and local media on how to better involve and inform people in crisis. He has set up emergency radio stations in the Philippines, implemented mis and disinformation projects during the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics, and developed a trust framework to monitor, evaluate and design trusted information channels. He is a strong believer in the importance of proximity, accountability and a good cup of coffee.
