In July 2012, a six day multiagency course was held in Kenya: 'Enhancing Quality and Accountability in Humanitarian Action.' The course included participants from a variety of humanitarian organisations who are recognised as leaders in Quality and Accountability and was organised by the Inter Agency Working Group (IAWG) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. This report outlines the structure and methodology of the course, then goes on to focus on the course outputs. The course participants, active field practitioners involved in quality and accountability, developed several recommendations for the humanitarian sector. The outputs also include proposals for mainstreaming of issues and core standards for all Quality and Accountability initiatives, as well as draft action plans. The annexes include a useful set of two page documents written by the course participants on various thematic areas related to communicating with affected communities including: Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms and Linking Emergencies with Early Recovery and Development.
