This report presents findings from a survey carried out by Internews in Eastern Samar from 24 January to 2 February 2014 in nine of the municipalities most affected by Typhoon Haiyan in December 2013. The purpose of the survey was to understand the listenership and value of Radio Bakdaw (two months after it started broadcasting), the information needs of the community as well as what sources people would use to address specific information needs. Key findings were that fifty one percent of respondents listen to Radyo Bakdaw, mostly for weather reports, news and information about aid distributions. The major reason for not listening was lack of a functioning radio. Seventy percent of those who listen to Radio Bakdaw say they have taken action based on what they heard. This mainly meant sharing information with someone else, but also included securing a job and solving an immediate problem. Housing information was the main thing that listeners wanted more information about, including distribution of housing materials, re-building and relocation.
